Tour de Yorkshire Hotel

Stage One of the Tour de Yorkshire will pass through Danby by the Duke of Wellington Inn on Friday the 1st of May 2015.

Danby village locals and Bed and Breakfast guests at the hotel are looking forward to welcoming the riders. A number of events to celebrate the occasion will take place on the village green opposite the Duke of Wellington Inn, which provides good North York Moors Bed and Breakfast accommodation.

Onion Club 2015

The membership list for this years Onion Club is now open.

The maximum number of members is forty and those who wish to join should contact the Hon. Club Secretary Charlie Balding at the bar of The Duke of Wellington Inn.

The Onion Show will take place in September and entries in the three categories will be judged by Mr Graham Watson of Ainthorpe. This year for the first time a number of hotel guests enjoying a bed and breakfast break have joined and will be back for a short break later in the year for the show and a trip to Whitby and another tour of the North York Moors.

Guest Beer: Quiet Release

Our latest guest beer is ‘Quiet Release’ from Sonnet 43 Brew House, a micro brewery based in County Durham.

It is a liquorice root stout with a 4.8% ABV. The tasting notes describe it as” a rich dark malty ale with a slightly roasted flavour and a creamy light tan head. The liquorice root adds a sweet refreshing aniseed taste, enhanced by the use of spicy blackcurrant hops for aroma”.

This beer proved very popular with our Bed and Breakfast guests over the weekend and also with local Danby residents and a group of real ale enthusiasts visiting the hotel from Whitby.

Burn’s Night Supper

The annual Burn’s Night Supper was held at The Duke of Wellington Inn last Tuesday and fifty odd customers including Bed and Breakfast guests enjoyed some very good MacSween’s haggis and locally grown neeps and tatties.

The Danby Music Group played a selection of Scottish music throughout the evening and the raffle raised £125 for this year’s charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.
